Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.s) are fully licensed physicians that practice medicine in all 50 states and in every medical specialty. Similar to M.D. (Medical Doctors), they perform surgeries, deliver babies and prescribe
medications in hospitals and clinics across the country. While M.D.s and D.O.s have many things in common, Osteopathic physicians offer a distinct approach to patient care. For more than 100 years, D.O.s have been utilizing the most modern advances in technology and medicine while utilizing their eyes to see the whole person, their ears to truly listen to their patients, in combination with a unique hands on approach to diagnose and treat illness.
Through the hands on treatment with Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT), D.O.s are able to effectively diagnose injury and illness, alleviate pain, and promote healing through the body’s natural ability to heal itself. OMT allows
D.O.s to balance the body’s interconnected system of muscles, nerves, and bones that leads to overall improvement of health. D.O.s utilize a holistic approach, looking at the whole person, while trying to treat the root cause of the
problem, not just the symptoms. They encourage their patients to develop attitudes and lifestyles that prevent illness before it happens! These “extra touches” embody the D.O.s philosophy of medicine.
